Reading Goal Progress:
I only read four books this month, bleh. I need to start letting myself off the hook with DNFing again because I wasted a lot of time trying to push myself through FOUR(!) other books that I ended up tossing. Anyway, that puts me at 56 books, on a goal of 50. I am 15 books ahead of schedule, and at 112% of my goal. #nice
Nanowrimo Goals:
For those of you don’t know, November is National Novel Writing Month. Essentially, the goal is to write a 50,000 page novel in one month. This ends up being 1,667 words per day. I’ve participated in Nanowrimo a few times, but have never finished. This year, I’m gonna play it a little differently. I intend to write 50,000 words, but I’m going to do a mix of fiction and non-fiction pieces. It’s essentially going to end up being a short story collection and/or a set of essays. I’m just going to go with the flow and try to write 50,000 pages of whatever I can by the end of November!
You can join me on the Nanowrimo website and also on Twitter, where I’ll surely be livetweeting my adventure.

Personal Highlights (aka a photo dump of things I did this month):
Thanks for reading! How was October for you? Let me know in the comments. 🙂
Great wrap-up! I am actually legitimately impressed by how many you DNFed! I honestly wish I would let myself DNF books more often.

My only regret is that I didn’t let myself DNF things sooner!! I wasted so much time trying to push myself through The Snowman before I finally decided I could let myself stop.

Having to DNF a book definitely sucks; especially if it’s that many in a month! I’ve only DNF’d one book this year – contemplating DNF’ing a second though. I simply set myself the 100 pages-rule to have a “legit” reason to just toss one aside. If the book didn’t grab me after 100 pages, I’m simply not going to torture myself any further.
So far, books have picked up by that mark so yay for that, haha.
It does suck that it feels like wasted time when you end up DNF’ing a book though! Hope you’ll have a better reading month in November. 🙂

Oh wow! I usually give books around 50 pages, but sometimes I’ll go up to 100. That’s incredible that you’ve only DNFed two so far this year. I’m glad most have picked up for you!

Some people told me that a lot of the “slow” books take at least 50 to 75 pages to pick up; so that’s why I set that mark, haha. It’s definitely personal though, but I like having something to fall back on if I’m really not enjoying a book. 100 pages is THE excuse for me. :’)
Thank you!

Yeah, that definitely makes sense! If it’s a longer book, I definitely push myself a little further than with shorter books.

That’s true! Although with shorter ones I’d rather stick with it till the end since it’s a short one after all, haha.
