Reading Goal Progress:
In 2017, I managed to read 70 books so I decided to aim for 75 books in 2018! I don’t have any other solid goals yet, I’ve thought about doing some book challenges, but I really just prefer to mood read! In January, I read 9 books, which puts me 3 books ahead of schedule and at 12% of my reading goal for the year. 🙂
Personal Highlights (aka a photo dump of things I did this month):
I read 9 books this month as well! High five to us! Love the kitty pictures! 😻

It wasn’t bad, I just didn’t feel invested in the story. 😦 I’ll probably come back to it eventually, I’ve heard great things, it just wasn’t grabbing me at the time.

I managed to finish Seven-Sided Spy, but I was disappointed by it, and really felt like the blurb didn’t describe the book well at all. I’m currently reading The Immortalists though and enjoying it a lot, so I’m glad you liked that one more!! Looks like you had a successful January!

I definitely agree on Seven-Sided Spy’s blurb not really describing it well! It didn’t feel poorly written, it was just… not what I was expecting, and didn’t really hold my interest.
But yes! I really likedThe Immortalists! My review of it is queued for next week. I’ll be interested to see what you think of it. 🙂

Love the kitties!!!
I finished You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) and enjoyed it a lot. But I love Felicia Day. Why didn’t you finish it?
Is it normal for you to start a book and not finish it? I have trouble leaving books unfinished, which often results in reading slumps, but I am getting better! I “trick” myself into not finishing books by allowing myself to read multiple books at once and then the ones I don’t like tend to keep getting pushed off until I finally admit I am not going to finish it. I know I’m weird haha.

There were a few comments in the first chapter of You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) that made me really uncomfortable (one was her joking that a cross-dressing build-a-bear santa would make a small-town clerk more accepting of trans people and the other was her joking that she looked like she had palsy in a photo) so I didn’t really feel like continuing.
It’s becoming more and more common for me to not finish books that I’m not enjoying. If I try to finish them, then I just end up putting off reading altogether and have decided I’d much rather put my energy towards books that I’ll like! That sounds like a good way to trick yourself into DNFing, actually. 🙂 I’ve done similarly with some books, mostly much longer ones!

That is a valid reason for not finishing it (not that you need one haha I was just curious what turned you off of it!)
I always thought not finishing books was bad and I am realizing now that it can actually be a good thing! It helps to see others who don’t finish books too! Thanks 🙂
