Okay, so I’d been doing Down the TBR Hole for quite some time and really loved it. BUT, it started to feel a bit like a chore, which is why I’d cut down on it. Luckily, Destiny decided to create a new similar-but-different feature that’s loads of fun called TBR Lows and Highs!
Rules:
- Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
- Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
- Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
- Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation of why you removed it
- Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
- List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)
To Remove:
All the Good Things
This one is well-reviewed, but just not appealing to me at the moment.
This Darkness Mine
Reading the premise I feel meh, and the reviews are backing me up.
The Upside of Unrequited
I know a lot of people love this, but it’s been on my TBR for a while and I just… don’t really care to get to it.
The Light We Lost
Another one that I’m just not excited about with some very all over the place reviews.
How to Ruin Everything
I’m not sure how I came across this one. It doesn’t seem bad, just not my thing!
Newly Added:
We Have Always Lived in the Castle
I believe I heard about this on the Reading Glasses podcast and decided I really needed to read it!
You Don’t Have to Like Me
Pretty sure this was also a Reading Glasses rec!
My Dear Hamilton
I saw someone I knew was reading this and I’m a big Hamilton fan, so I hope it’s worth picking up!
The Alphabet Versus the Goddess & The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down
These were both off of Fran’s Top Ten Tuesday post from this week!

I hope that you enjoy The Alphabet Vs The Goddess and The Spirit Catches You!

I read “The Light We Lost” and was very frustrated by the end. I read through it rather fast just because I was hoping it would change but it didn’t. It wasn’t as “cute” as reviews said it was, so I wouldn’t really recommend it.

Thanks for sharing! I’m sorry you didn’t like it, but I’m definitely going to steer away from it for sure now.

I don’t blame you at all for removing Upside. Honestly… I’ve given up on Becky’s books. 😦 I’m still going to read What if it’s Us since I have an eARC and since Adam Silvera co-wrote it with her, but rereading Simon made me realize there’s so much iffy rep and some super problematic remarks, and the quotes and excerpts I’ve read from Upside and Leah were ROUGH.
On a happier note, though, I just bought We Have Always Lived in the Castle from BookOutlet recently, so let me know if you want to buddy read it later this year! ♥

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels iffy about her! I’m glad to see queer rep being so widely read but ALSO have weird feelings about some stuff I’ve heard. Disclaimer that I haven’t actually read any of her books, just quotes from them.
Yay, yes let’s please do that! Let me know when you’re free to, I should be able to read it in a couple weeks or so but understand if you need some more time! 🙂 ❤

Yeah, you’re definitely not alone! I don’t know, sometimes I just get tired of how hyped she is in queer lit when there are all of these queer authors and authors of color (and QPOC authors!) writing way better stories, that come from their own experiences, and getting like 5% of the hype that she gets. It makes me a little salty, honestly. 😡
It’s a pretty small book, so I feel like I could definitely do it in a few weeks! We could aim for early October if you want?

Yesss, those are pretty much the same feels I have! Like, I know I’m being a little bit petty, but also I just want other authors to be more hyped.
Early October sounds perfect! 🙂
