Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is a freebie and since I saw Amanda’s post about books she’s DNFed this year, I thought I’d do the same. It’s interesting, because I DNFed a LOT of books at the beginning of the year but stopped doing so around June (save for one outlier in October). I believe that’s because I’ve gotten a lot better at picking out which books I’ll actually enjoy! I DNFed 22 books in 2018, so I’ll share just a few with you today.

Wildcard
This was probably one of my most disappointing DNFs of the year. It was the rogue October one and was a huge bummer because I loved Warcross, but just couldn’t get invested in the sequel.

As I Descended
Oof, this one was rough y’all. DNFed at 13% due to homophobia/biphobia/misogyny. Huge regrets.

This had potential, but the writing really needed some polishing. I was finding it kind of difficult to wade through and finally gave up.

Asperger’s Children
I was bummed because it seemed this would contain some interesting and important information, but it was too dry and dense for me to get through. I’m almost wishing I had kept at it and just skimmed.
I know everyone has differing opinions on DNFing, but I find it’s the best way for me to keep reading! If I try to force myself through a book I’m not enjoying, I won’t read it at all. That being said, I have a lot of respect for people who don’t DNF and still manage to love reading. I think it’s lovely that we can all have our own ways of doing things.
I had wanted to read Asperger’s Children but got turned down for an ARC of it, I’d been wondering if it was good. Dry and dense even when the information is promising is the worst! I don’t think I’ll pick it up knowing that now.

Maybe you could see if Amazon or another site has a sample available to read? It’s possible it was just dry and dense to my tastes, I don’t want to drive anyone away who was thinking about giving it a shot otherwise. 🙂

Awww, I’m so sad you didn’t like Wildcard! I haven’t read it yet but I want to soon. As I Descended, on the other hand, doesn’t surprise me at all, sadly. I can’t stand Robin Talley’s books, frankly. I think her writing style just isn’t for me and she tends to be SUPER problematic but it’s like everyone gives her a free pass because she’s an own-voice f/f author?? Which is no excuse. Augh. I could rant a lot about her lmao.

It definitely could have been a just-me thing with Wildcard. I was so bummed I didn’t end up liking it, but maybe I’ll try it again later! Honestly, I feel like we’ve discussed Robin Talley together before haha. I definitely am keeping her on my do-not-read list because you’re SO right in that she pulls a lot of bad stuff with no repercussions.

I think we probably have discussed her, too, now that you mention it. 😂 I feel like I whine about her every chance I get because there are just SO MANY own-voice f/f authors who are a million times better and don’t get 10% the hype she gets!! AUGH.

I think it was a down the TBR hole post where you removed one of her books and I was agreeing emphatically with your decision! And suuuper agree.
