T10T: My Bookish Wishlist

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is bookish items and merchandise that I want to own. This is super fun because I can share some neat stuff with y’all from my etsy wishlist!

The Clever Clove has a LOT of fun stuff! They’re currently on maternity leave, but should be returning in 2019, and can fulfill all your bookish merch wishes then. 🙂

I want a library book stamp for my books sooo badly. I don’t necessarily have a practical need for it, but I think they’re so cute!

These book clutches are just adorable, I’d kill for the one with The Raven on it!

T10T: My Backlist TBR

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is “backlist books I want to read” which are… so many of my books. I’ll give you just a handful that I’ve been meaning to get to!

The Raven King (The Raven Cycle #4)
I’ve been reading this series for a while now and am finally on the last book. I bought it a few weeks ago, but am waiting to build up the courage to get to it!

So Sad Today
I adored The Pisces so much that I need to read everything by Melissa Broder and I feel like I’ll love this collection of essays.

Where You’ll Find Me
My sister has this, it’s a true story that takes place near where I grew up, and she told me I’ll cry my eyes out. So I really want to read it and am also terrified to.

The Plague
I read my first Camus a couple years ago when my cousin recommended The Stranger to me. I’d been meaning to read some more and my friend has also been meaning to read The Plague, so we’re hoping to do a buddy read sometime soon!

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
I’ve heard SO many good things about this series and won the first book in a giveaway recently, so I am VERY excited to get to it sometime soon!

T10T: Halloween!

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme a Halloween freebie, so I’m going to show y’all some of my favorite spooky books. 🙂

Annihilation
This book is spooky, but not outright scary! It leans more towards sci-fi, but has a bit of a horror feel to it.

A Head Full of Ghosts
Wildly unsettling, super well-written.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle
Again, not outright scary, but I was still a tense mess throughout most of this.

The Vegetarian
The pattern continues. Not proper horror, but very unsettling.

Pet Semetary
Very much horror, very much spooky. One of my all-time favorites!

T10T: Longest Books I’ve Read

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Longest Books I’ve Read. I’m gonna sort my “read” shelf on Goodreads by number of pages and see what we get. A lot of multiple books from the same series *coughASOIAFcoughHPcough* are popping up, so I’ll only include one book from each series.

A Storm of Swords
1178 pages. This list may have been 90% GRRM if I hadn’t restricted it to one book per series.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
870 pages.

The Fireman
768 pages.

Breaking Dawn
756 pages.

Angels & Demons
736 pages.

T10T: Books I Need to Read By My Favorite Authors

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Books By My Favorite Authors That I Still Haven’t Read, which is difficult to condense into a title that still makes sense. Wildly enough, I haven’t read the entire bibliography of… any of my favorite authors. Oops.

Heart-Shaped Box
I actually have this one and am hoping to get to it soon, especially with Halloween coming up! Feel free to let me know if you’d like to do a buddy read with me. 🙂

Terrier (Beka Cooper #1)
Instead of reading the Tamora Pierce books I haven’t read, I keep re-reading the ones I’ve already read 10 times. Oh well.

The Shining
I mean… need I say more?

The Raven King
I need to finish this series, oh my GOD.

Beacon 23
I need to read the couple of Hugh Howey books I haven’t read, but I need to re-read Wool first.

T10T: Hidden Gems

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Hidden Gems — aka books that deserve some more recognition! For this one, I sorted my “read” shelf by “number of ratings” ascending and chose some four to five star books that I feel more people should read!

Policing the Black Man
This is a really wonderful collection of essays about the history of racism in the US. I personally felt I learned a lot from it!

Goldeline
I don’t usually read MG books, but the cover sold me on this one. On top of that, it’s a quick read and it has queer characters in it. I was surprised to see it had so few reviews (only 43 at the time of writing this post)!

A Cat Named Darwin
I don’t have a review for this one, since I read it before I started writing reviews, but I adored this! It’s a really sweet story about the author’s adoption of a stray cat and I cried at the end and I’ve actually been meaning to reread it again soon.

I’m Not Missing
A very compelling story about love and loss. It contains a nice mix of fluff and serious issues, and I’m again surprised that this one didn’t gain more of a following!

Eden
Eden was very interesting because it explored the aftermath of trauma rather than guiding the reader only through the trauma itself. I can see how this one wouldn’t necessarily be for everyone, but I also think it’s certainly worth a read if the concept interests you.

T10T: Favorite Non-Fiction

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is a back to school/learning freebie in honor of school starting back up. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do for this one, but was easy once I realized — some of my favorite non-fiction books!

Ask Me About My Uterus
This is probably going to be one of my top books of 2018 and I can’t stop talking about it, but this was a very eye-opening read focused on one woman’s experience with endometriosis.

Quiet Rumours
Also a recent read, I found this to be a very informative book about anarcha-feminism! It’s an anthology and I didn’t connect with every piece, but it did help me better formulate a lot of the thoughts already circulating in my head and put things into a more historical perspective.

Lessons from a Child
I read this for a Teaching Writing class in college and haven’t picked it up since, but remember it being an extremely impactful read. I actually brought it with me when I moved and have it on my bookshelf at my apartment, so I should re-read it sometime!

The Man Who Listens to Horses
I grew up a Horse Girl and Monty Roberts has always been a hero of mine. He puts a lot of emphasis on actually listening to animals and learning to communicate with them in a more natural way. This is his autobiography, which I’ve read several times.

The Bird Market of Paris
This is another one I haven’t read in a solid four years or so, but also loved when I read it. I remember being wracked with emotions during my time with it. It was a difficult read, but also a really lovely one.

T10T: Books to Break a Slump

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is books to pull you out of a reading slump. For me, the key to fighting a reading slump is to read something a little different than my usual go-to’s and/or something a little shorter/more broken up. Graphic novels and short stories are really helpful for this. Below are some of my suggestions for books to break your reading slump!

The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2014
You could probably choose any year from this annual collection, but this is my favorite I’ve read thus far. It’s really lovely because it’s filled with such an assortment of items — essays, podcast transcripts, short stories, poems. It’s got a little bit of everything, which is helpful for finding something you really love! One of my favorite pieces out of this one was “If You Were a Dinosaur, My Love.” Be prepared to cry.

Vampires in the Lemon Grove
A bunch of strange short stories, but it’s one of my favorite collections! I’ve been meaning to reread it again soon.

The Last Animal
More strange short stories, these all revolving around animals and humans. This and Vampires in the Lemon Grove are what got me into short story collections to begin with!

Through the Woods
This is nice because it is both a graphic novel and a collection of short stories. The art is beautiful and the stories themselves are very good. It’s a quick read, definitely great for someone in a slump!

Wild Magic
An old favorite of mine! I find it super helpful to go back to books I’ve read dozens of times when I’m in a slump. They’re familiar and so easy to get through, and help me keep reading even when I find it difficult to do so.

T10T: Books I’d Mash Up

ttt-new

Wow y’all, I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday post in almost a year! I had wanted to focus more on reviews and stuff, but now I’m feeling ready to jump back in. Top Ten Tuesday was originally put together by The Broke and the Bookish and has been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is books that you’d choose to mash together in some way.

Honestly, I don’t know why, but I just now decided I would very much like a mash-up of The Secret History and Harry Potter (when the group in the latter is on the older side of course). Can y’all imagine how interesting that could be?? I don’t remember too too much about the characters in The Secret History, but the boarding school settings could be integrated pretty easily, and I think the characters from HP would be all over the murder of a fellow classmate.
